Colorado Rapids drew 2-2 with Sporting Kansas City at Dick’s Sporting Good Park, in what was an entertaining clash. The hosts were 2-0 up in the opening ten minutes, and the visitors equalised in the 90th.
Colorado opened the scoring in the first five minutes of the match. Dominique Badji was given a free opportunity to score, as he was left alone in the six-yard box. He tapped home from close range after Edgar Castillo provided the service.
MLS new-boy Joe Mason made it 2-0 to Colorado just nine minutes into his debut. He was one-on-one, and the chance looked to have gotten away before he eventually slotted home.
Sporting Kansas City had their chances, but the home side reached the half time break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Kansas City pulled a goal back in the 57th minute, making it 2-1. Yohan Croizet had a free header which cannoned off the post, and no Colorado defenders reacted before Felipe Gutierrez took the opportunity to half the deficit.
The visitors were persistent all the way through the second half, hoping to find the equaliser. They had many chances, but many we squandered or saved by Tim Howard.
Diego Rubio replaced Johnny Russell late on, and it was the Chilean who found the late equaliser! The ball fell to the SKC forward in the 90th minute, and he finished calmly and netted a deserved equaliser for the visitors.
