PREVIEW | CONCACAF Champions League: Semi-final second legs

Tuesday night sees the second legs of the CONCACAF Champions League semi finals take place, with both Toronto and the New York Red Bulls in with a shot of making the final.

Club America (1) v (3) Toronto FC

Toronto will take an advantage to Mexico after a strong performance in the first leg last week. Sebastian Giovinco opened the scoring, followed by goals from Jozy Altidore and Ashtone Morgan. Andres Ibarguen got an away goal for Club America, which could be vital by the end of the second leg.

The 7x Champions, America, beat Saprissa 6-2 on aggregate in the Round of 16, before overcoming Tauro, after scoring seven times in two legs against the Panamanian side. To make the final four, Toronto beat MLS rivals, Colorado, before having to use the away goals rule to get past Tigres UANL in the quarter finals.

The second leg of this semi final will be played at Estadio Azteca on Tuesday night, and will be the second game to kick off on the night, with a 9pm kick off time in Mexico, a 3am start on Wednesday morning for UK fans.

NY Red Bulls (0) v (1) Guadalajara

Just a single goal was needed for Guadalajara to take victory at home in the first leg. Isaac Brizuela got eh goal in the first half in Mexico last week, and will take that advantage through to Tuesday’s match-up.

Guadalajara made it through to the final four after beating debutants Cibao in the Round of 16. The Mexican side then went on to beat the Seattle Sounders 3-1 on aggregate in the quarter finals. The Red Bulls beat Olimpia in the Round of 16, before overcoming Tijuana with ease in the quarter finals, scoring five goals over the two legs.

The second leg sees the Red Bulls at home, with the game being played at the Red Bull Arena on Tuesday night. The game will kick off at 8pm ET, a 1am kickoff in the UK, with the MLS side knowing they have to win to have any chance of qualification to the final.

  • Club America v Toronto FC: Tuesday 9pm CT (Wednesday 3am, UK time)
