PREVIEW | Sporting Kansas City vs Vancouver Whitecaps

Week 8 gets underway on Friday night with a top of the Western conference clash between Sporting Kansas City and Vancouver Whitecaps at Children’s Mercy Park.

Sporting KC are clear at the top of the Western conference on 14 points, four points ahead of LA Galaxy and Vancouver Whitecaps who sit second and third respectively.

The hosts come into this game unbeaten in their last six matches. The only defeat they have suffered so far this season was against high-flying NYCFC on the opening weekend of the season, so there’s no shame in that.

Last time out, they drew 2-2 with Seattle Sounders at Children’s Mercy Park. It wasn’t a bad result when you consider the fact SKC went 2-1 down in the 73rd minute. Graham Zusi equalised for Kansas City, keeping their unbeaten run intact.

The Whitecaps had a great start to the season, winning their first two games. But now they find themselves on a run of one win in their last five, coming against Columbus Crew. It’s not all bad news for them though as they currently sit in third place, albeit they have played a couple more matches than most teams in the West.

Vancouver head to Kansas City after suffering a 2-0 defeat against new-boys LAFC at BC Place last weekend. The Whitecaps have been better on the road so far, winning two (Against Houston and Columbus) and scoring six goals in the process. They’ve only managed one win and two goals so far at home.

In terms of a prediction, I am going to say a fairly comfortable win for Sporting KC. They are in great form at the moment and I fancy them to have too much for the Whitecaps at home. Johnny Russell looks like he has adapted already, and has looked sharp so far in his American adventure.

Prediction: Sporting KC 3-1 Vancouver Whitecaps
