PREVIEW | Atlanta United vs Sporting Kansas City

The MLS action just keeps on coming as Atlanta United take on Sporting Kansas City in a ‘top of the table’ clash at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Both sides have had fantastic starts to the 2018 campaign as Atlanta sit top of the Eastern conference with 22 points in the bag, whilst SKC top the West with 20 points.

Since their opening weekend defeat at the hands of Houston Dynamo, Atlanta have been on a really impressive run of form. The Five Stripes are unbeaten in their last eight matches, winning seven of them.

Last time out, Atlanta were winners on the road as they beat Chicago Fire 2-1 with the goals coming from Ezequiel Barco and Josef Martinez. The three points allowed Atlanta to overtake NYCFC who were beaten convincingly by rivals New York Red Bulls in the Hudson River Derby.

Sporting Kansas City are also in good form, having lost just one of their last nine outings. Johnny Russell is proving to be one of the signings of the season, and SKC are looking like a great team in general. They beat Colorado Rapids in their last game, a 1-0 win at Children’s Mercy Park.

Prediction

The meeting between Atlanta United and Sporting Kansas City this week could be a potential MLS Cup final come December. I wouldn’t be surprised as both sides will certainly be up there come the end of the season.

Atlanta United have won every home game this season, bar one, which was a 2-2 draw with Patrick Vieira’s NYCFC. They’re unbelievably tough opposition for visiting teams at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

I think it will be a close game between two high-flying teams, but Atlanta will take the three points.

Atlanta United 2-1 Sporting Kansas City.
