Wayne Rooney is currently making his way Stateside in order to complete a move to DC United after a short second spell at his boyhood club Everton.
The move will reportedly be made official later today, and Rooney has tweeted this morning to let everyone know he is en route to the United States.
According to the Washington Post, Rooney will sign a two-and-a-half year contract with DC United and become the highest paid player on the roster. Reports suggest that the deal will be finalised once Major League Soccer’s summer transfer window opens on the 10th of July.
This transfer could help kick-start DC United’s season – They currently sit bottom of the Eastern Conference and Rooney can help inject experience, excitement and even quality into the team. Rooney scored 11 times in 40 appearances during his second spell in Merseyside, despite being ‘finished’ according to some.
DC United will open their new stadium, Audi Field, against Vancouver Whitecaps on the 14th of July in a match which could feature a Wayne Rooney debut.
